Vol. 58 TUGBOAT GARMENTS

Otsuka, there is not as much story to tell about this area, this is where I live and could not be happier for it. When it comes right down to it, I would say this place is next to the residence called “Sugamo” where it is known to be the grandpa and grandma version of Shibuya. Interesting enough to at least get yourself to visit this place so that you folks could understand what I mean by that. Unlike Sugamo, Otsuka show us the variety of people from young to old, even from western to eastern influence to it. As I spend some of my chilling time on the weekends around this area, I could see some young kids who seems to be mixed race, folks wearing traditional culture-oriented attire, and lots of different language are outwardly spoken by people spending their days here. It might be a little weird to say this but I think this community that I live in, there seems to be a same factor that I have lived in the states, New York, where multi-cultural-mecca gathers people from around the world. Community-wise, I get to feel the diversity of people having their own life with something in their mind.
I encounter one brand in other day called “TUGBOAT GARMENTS” , This entity also reminds me of dapper folks in New York and told me the importance of loving community, and appreciating the difference of diversity.

Established in 2013, the guy behind this brand, Daisuke Arai, more than ten years of experience in Japanese fashion world, he bloomed his talent with a taste of Americana in his mind to appreciate his creation that withdraw from American culture. Former manager and production planning at Stussy Japan as well as himself been as one that took responsible for growing the brand called “Trophy Clothing” (This folks are also awesome so please check them out!). He named his creation after the concept of unsung hero. Unsung hero can be described as someone who makes a substantive yet unrecognizable contribution. He modernizes the garments of the past, re-constructing vintage wear with an urban technique as to create simple, yet unique piece that reminisces the old time of America. He would like his brand to be the unsung hero of your life with a maximum effort on the fabric and pattern.

I would love to visit their place to check out what actually they can offer for the customer but the location is little too far for me to bring myself at. Sooner or later I would love to take a look at their place to see what is out there for sure. Many westerners that place them in fashion industries especially in the realms of Americana, they appreciate what Japanese modernize these types of well-crafted, well-detailed art piece that Japanese can elevate to the next level. I wish these entities should seek for the attention from overseas. I wonder how folks from overseas find brand like these. Probably participating in trade show, or marketing themselves in English to aim for the market outside of Japan would be a rational way to spread who they are and what they do.
