Vol. 147 Individualist “Chptr 13 and Vrs 2”

Following on interview with Yamakawa-san “Panic Junkie” on  “Individualist “Chptr 13 and Vrs 1”.

One of the interesting quote that he mentioned almost changed my perspective about what I do. This new perspective gave me the idea that how people justify something that they believe it is right but it might be wrong according to his statement. Or I would just let it be and leave it as just one of topics as to argue about. His “on point” and simple answers had greatly impacted on my way of thinking things. Thanks to him with his analytical yet plain comment that he gave to me, I could dig into my belief of how Japan embrace creativity that have been blessed from western countries.

“Copy is just a copy. I believe that there are many things that do not add quality and Japan actually copy things with low quality as well. Japan does not necessarily care to broadcast about China copying things because they do that as well. In particular, what I think it is weird is that saying like “Japan has its original and unique idea to add quality”. It does not justify what Japan is capable of.”

IO) What does Japan, being Japanese or being a Japanese descendant mean to you? How do you think it has impacted your life and your success?

Yamakawa-san) Japan is an small island and Japanese is a nation from small island.

IO) What do you think are the positive and negative points about being Japanese, Japanese descendants, and Japanese culture?

Yamakawa-san) Japan is a safe place to live in.

IO) Any negative point?

Yamakawa-san) There are too many of them so that I can write them down.

IO) Is there anything you find strange about Japan as a Japanese/Japanese (half/mixed)

Yamakawa-san) Japan has been broadcasting about the fact that China copy things from us. In fact, Japan is the one that copy from foreign countries.

IO) Care to elaborate that? I think that Japan is indeed copying things from foreign countries. At the same time, I also think that Japan has its original and unique idea to add quality to them. Any thoughts

Yamakawa-san) Copy is just a copy. I believe that there are many things that do not add quality and Japan actually copy things with low quality as well. Japan does not necessarily care to broadcast about China copying things because they do that as well. In particular, what I think it is weird is that saying like “Japan has its original and unique idea to add quality”. It does not justify what Japan is capable of.

IO) As a Japanese/Japanese descendants, for you have any ambition, envy, aspirations against western (U.S. for example) or Japanese cultures? How has Western/Japanese culture influenced you and your creativity? How do you feel about Western/Japanese culture?

Yamakawa-san) I have no aspiration or any desire at all. Yet, I have an interest in both Japanese and western cultures and I want to know more of them.

IO) How do you think Japan is going to become? Any thoughts?

Yamakawa-san) I have no idea what Japan will become. I just hope that Japan will not vanish away.

IO) Any plan to go abroad or expand your entity?

Yamakawa-san) Not really. Nowadays we are connecting each other through Internet so that I feel awkward about the word itself “going abroad”.

When I receive orders from people overseas, I just send my work to them. That is how it works and I do not necessarily feel that I do my work only here in Japan.

IO) What is your definition of creativity? How would you define creativity?

Yamakawa-san) The definition of creative would be everything based on your own thoughts and actions.

IO) How would you define life in one sentence?

Yamakawa-san) I have not lived up my life as to say what the life would be in one word/sentence. I won’t be able to answer this question until the day I die.

IO) Do you have any tips for differentiating yourself from competitors?

Yamakawa-san) Not that I think of. There is no way that we are all making the same thing. Slight difference with someone would be considered as aん uniqueness so that I do not think I need to look for a way to differentiate myself。

IO) Something that you are currently into? What is a current hobby or interest of yours?

Yamakawa-san) Ichiro and Daisuke Matsuzaka (Professional baseball player)
